was a hodgepodge of Fail and busts with some really amazing books
sprinkled in I tried to please everyone and ended up failing adding
books that everyone loves and saying yes to all the big name books
- Stop saying Yes to everythingThis excludes my boyfriend or manga suggestions but just saying yes to the hype, to the great blog reviews, to everyone blogging about this one amazing book when I have 499 books already on my lists
- Stop book bingingI have a bad habit of reading reading reading for weeks on end with out stop and getting burned out half way this isn't good as it gets me less reviews and less enthusiasm to read so as of 2013 I'm stopping this and only reading one book at a time so no more requesting two books at the same time or eight at the same time just one book and one comic/manga
- Stop fallowing the crowedThis kind of goes with the not saying yes to the hype but looking at it I realize that Blogging and book reading have become like High school all over again and I want to be popular and do what everyone else is doing I'm going to stop that on focus more on Ghost and less on “oh but if books with bite liked it I might like it” this is what has led to more busts then fun this year and I don't want a repeat. This also goes with reading reviews I always see books I want to read or have in “DNF” piles or one stared and it makes me concerned while reading because then I'm not sure if I'll like it. I'll put that aside and not listen to anyone else commentary on a book anymore
- Only review it if I have something really meaningful to sayI'm taking my advice for how I review manga and doing the same for books as of 2013. While for the most part I have something to say on books admittedly I don't always and that leaves for a very small review or leaves me finishing a book that I just feel “meh” or disgusted with I'm going back to the very beginning of when I started reviewing when I first reviewed shiver because I had something to say. I liked that feeling and I want it back
I think ignoring the hype is one of the hardest things to do! There are so many shiny new books coming out that those other books you wanted to read so desperately only a few months ago are pushed to the side. I'm working on reading what I want to read, too.
